Well, estioe and I were staring down the domain issues when I decided, eh, let's try clicking on the chat support button in Dreamhost's web panel, and the tech fixed it in a minute.

Site's up again - enjoy!

Yes, the archive is down -- thank you to everyone who has PM'd, emailed and commented to let me know. I've forwarded the information to svmadelyn, and I'm sure she is working on getting it fixed. As soon as there is something to tell, someone will post here with an update.

Hey all -- just a quick note to let you know that you are free to repost your stories and art to your own journals and websites, and to other archives.

(Artists -- your art will still be hosted at the Big Bang site, but we ask that you not hotlink -- please upload all files to your own server space when you repost.)

Thank you all for making this such a great challenge!
13 November 2009 @ 10:40 am
The 2009 SGA Big Bang Archive is officially OPEN!

A couple things to get out of the way:

* Writers and artists, please do not post your work in your own journal until Friday, November 27th. (You may link to your work on the site in the meantime! PLEASE, link to the site!)

* Linkback buttons and banners are available, should you wish to use them.

* There is a community specifically for feedbacking the participants over at sgabigbangfb. Please do not try to join this comm, as it has no members. Each artist and author has their own post there, which is linked within their works on the site. Artists and authors -- you can follow your feedback by tracking comments on your post (tracking is the little pushpin.)

* All thanks and acknowledgments for this challenge can be found here, or by clicking on 'Site Info' at the Big Bang Archive, but we'd like to take a moment to highlight lauralaitaine's contributions in particular. She did a bang up job on the website, and we're so grateful for all her help. Thanks especially also to the writers and the artists, and to our fabulous art pinch-hitters, saldemonium, calcitrix, oran and splitbeak. (If you did a pinch hit, and we forgot you, please speak up!)

* There are multiple skins for you to select from once again this year. Pick the one that you like best to use for the site! (Hint: skin changes are in the upper right corner. Play with whatever calls your name.)

* It goes without saying that you should be kind and right-click/save the vids, yes? Yes, of course it does.

* We will be again hosting reviews, DVD commentaries and squee posts to help promote our participants’ hard work again this year (for both writers and artists!), but you’ll just need to watch the community for more information. Posting will not take place until January, so all of you participating in holiday challenges will get a breather, and then we hope you’ll have a great time revisiting/discovering SGA Big Bang gems.

Thank you for making sgabigbang such a wild success this year!

Title: Pegasus Purgatorio (for the whole thing, though some parts have other names)
Pairing: Sheppard/McKay
Genre: Action/adventure
Rating: Adult
Words: roughly 115,000
Timeline: This goes AU at about the midway point of the fourth season. The Asuran planet is not destroyed, but the Replicators are partially neutralized (a 'three-laws' patch, they can't directly harm humans); Elizabeth Weir returns as head of Atlantis and other events of the fourth and some of the fifth season do occur.
Summary: It is difficult to write a paradise when all the superficial indications are that you ought to write an apocalypse. It is obviously much easier to find inhabitants for an inferno or even a purgatorio. (Ezra Pound)
Warning: Enough technobabble to frighten off even David Hewlett. Seriously. And all of it is based on real, honest-to-gosh science, enough to do Brian Greene proud. But other than that -- off-screen death of an OMC is all.
Notes: Betas (almost too many to mention and I think I might have forgotten a few, that's how long this damn thing has taken): Kathgrr, for line-by-line-by-line help; WordWitch; Kisa Hawklin (for helping me rein in Romantic!John); CookieMom; Jer (for timely swats); Ladyholder (for timely hugs and encouragement); Susan, of course; Celtic Tiger (I think, yes?); and OMG Gnat, even after a freaking car accident. If I've forgotten anyone, please forgive me. This story ATE MY LIFE. Seriously. I came close to wrapping it in a burlap bag and throwing it in the river.

There are also acknowledgments: Douglas Adams for being the world's best writer, even posthumously; Bill Watterson for Calvinball; Stephen Hawking for not being boring; Ted Bunn from UC Berkeley for being a freak about black holes; Wikipedia for being always available; half a dozen dead physicists for helping me learn stuff that almost made my head explode; Robert Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke for teaching me how to write good technobabble; everybody from Monty Python; and Neil Gaiman, because I wanna be him when I grow up.

This story is the middle between And All the Seas and Prodigal Sails. It tells you what happens to them and takes them a little beyond Prodigal Sails. You don't have to read either, but it helps. The length of time covered is roughly nine years.

Title: Know How to Fall
Author: auburnnothenna
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Rating: R
Genre: AU romance
Word Count: ~84044
Warnings: mentions of other relationships
Notes: Many thanks to betas dossier, mecurtin, enviropony, (who lent not only her sharp eyes but her expertise as well) and mirabile_dictu.
Summary: John Sheppard finally accepts the title to Pegasus Farm after ten years of working in Europe and South America. When he meets prickly horse trainer and former Olympic hopeful Rodney McKay, he falls hard for him, while John's friendship shakes up Rodney's life, making him want to take chances again. When his old friend Teyla Emmagan is left homeless after a betrayal shuts down Athos Circus, John invites the tattered remnants of the circus troop to come and stay with him. He begins to turn Pegasus Farm into a home, and put the ailing farm back on the equestrian map, but soon discovers that rejecting an offer to buy may put them all in danger.

dossier says:

I love Know How To Fall. It's a lush and sweeping romance set against Pegasus Farms that twists between sweet and heart wrenching. Auburn's research is fantastic, and the equestrian details really come alive; I've read it five or six times, and I get something new from it every time. John, Rodney, Teyla and Ronon are wonderful, very much the people we're used to seeing on screen, despite the fact that they're all transplanted into the completely AU setting. They aren't the only ones, the casting spills across two series in hilariously perfect ways. Pegasus Farm is as much a character as the people, I kind of want to go and live there right now.

Title: The Astonishing Persistence Of Memory - Present Tense
Author: Tielan
Category: team drama with John/Teyla pairing
Rating: PG
Word Count: 60,147
Spoilers: Up to Common Ground, with hints and mirrorings from the seasons after.
Notes: Sequel to my sgabigbang story from 2008: The Astonishing Persistence Of Memory: Past Time which goes AU after Common Ground but retains certain plot elements of the series.

Copious Thanks: Thanks go to my betas with_apostrophe and michelel27, who gave excellent concrit and did wonderful beta jobs to the tune of mucho panic and fretting. They also go out to the cheer squad over at sga_team, who were encouraging and helpful when things got stuck, and encouraging and supportive when things were going well. And finally, they go to ladyjax, whose persistently expressed desire to read this story has been my fluffy blankie for the last couple of months.

Summary: After being missing for six months after Kolya tried to use him as a hostage, John Sheppard is once again back in Atlantis, back with his team, back among his friends. But even as he tries to attain 'normality' in his life, the shadow of what the Wraith did to him in those missing months looms - and threatens not only him and his team, but all of Atlantis, too.

Title: The Deconstruction of Falling Stars
Author: kyizi
Pairings: John Sheppard/Cameron Mitchell, Teyla Emmagan/Evan Lorne, and there are a few others mentioned peripherally
Rating: 12A/PG-13
Word Count: 60,084
Spoilers: SGA & SG1 through to the end.
Notes: A massive thank you to my awesome betas tesserae_ and devikun, who gave me the best beta I could have asked for. You guys are awesome!

Summary: It’s been almost four years since Atlantis was thrown into the far reaches of the universe, with no idea where they are or how to get home. John Sheppard is lost and Cameron Mitchell can’t quite work out how the hell he's managing to cope with running the city; his only consolation is that he’s not the one running the whole show. When one of their teams is lost and planets start to disappear from the night sky, things suddenly take a turn for the worst. Struggling to cope with their loss, the people of Atlantis have to pull together to fight an enemy unlike any they’ve seen before and their only chance of winning seems to lie within the city itself, but the cost of survival may just turn out to be too high.

Preview: I seriously couldn’t decide what snippets from the fic that I could use, so I decided to do something a little different and introduce you instead to Atlantis and its characters as you’ll find them in my fic. Please note that the following text is not a part of the final story.

Four People John Sheppard Wishes He Could Have Said Goodbye toCollapse )

Three Things Evan Lorne Will Never Take the Credit ForCollapse )
