Summary: It’s been almost four years since Atlantis was thrown into the far reaches of the universe, with no idea where they are or how to get home. John Sheppard is lost and Cameron Mitchell can’t quite work out how the hell he's managing to cope with running the city; his only consolation is that he’s not the one running the whole show. When one of their teams is lost and planets start to disappear from the night sky, things suddenly take a turn for the worst. Struggling to cope with their loss, the people of Atlantis have to pull together to fight an enemy unlike any they’ve seen before and their only chance of winning seems to lie within the city itself, but the cost of survival may just turn out to be too high.

Summary: John Sheppard finally accepts the title to Pegasus Farm after ten years of working in Europe and South America. When he meets prickly horse trainer and former Olympic hopeful Rodney McKay, he falls hard for him, while John's friendship shakes up Rodney's life, making him want to take chances again. When his old friend Teyla Emmagan is left homeless after a betrayal shuts down Athos Circus, John invites the tattered remnants of the circus troop to come and stay with him. He begins to turn Pegasus Farm into a home, and put the ailing farm back on the equestrian map, but soon discovers that rejecting an offer to buy may put them all in danger.

I love Know How To Fall. It's a lush and sweeping romance set against Pegasus Farms that twists between sweet and heart wrenching. Auburn's research is fantastic, and the equestrian details really come alive; I've read it five or six times, and I get something new from it every time. John, Rodney, Teyla and Ronon are wonderful, very much the people we're used to seeing on screen, despite the fact that they're all transplanted into the completely AU setting. They aren't the only ones, the casting spills across two series in hilariously perfect ways. Pegasus Farm is as much a character as the people, I kind of want to go and live there right now.

Timeline: This goes AU at about the midway point of the fourth season. The Asuran planet is not destroyed, but the Replicators are partially neutralized (a 'three-laws' patch, they can't directly harm humans); Elizabeth Weir returns as head of Atlantis and other events of the fourth and some of the fifth season do occur.
Summary: It is difficult to write a paradise when all the superficial indications are that you ought to write an apocalypse. It is obviously much easier to find inhabitants for an inferno or even a purgatorio. (Ezra Pound)
Warning: Enough technobabble to frighten off even David Hewlett. Seriously. And all of it is based on real, honest-to-gosh science, enough to do Brian Greene proud. But other than that -- off-screen death of an OMC is all.
